Finding a vision correction procedure that’s right for you is an incredibly important decision that will certainly improve your lifestyle. No two eyes are the same, that’s why at Image Plus, the surgeons will take the time to sit down with you and create a personalized treatment plan right for you.

To get on your way to life without boundaries, we’re looking at two procedures offered at Image Plus—Visian ICL and PRK—and providing you with expert knowledge on each procedure, including what they offer and why you’d choose each surgery.

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) with iDesign Advanced Wavefront

One type of laser vision correction surgery we offer is PRK with iDesign WaveFront– an option for those who suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness and blurry vision. This procedure is beneficial for those who work in active professions like the military or police force, as well as athletes playing high impact sports.

PRK eliminates the need to create a corneal flap, a step performed in iLASIK, which eliminates the risk of damage or needing another surgery, such as flap repositioning, due to rubbing or sheering injuries.

During the vision correction procedure, the epithelium (corneal tissue) layer is removed with the Amoils Brush, which can adjust to various cornea thicknesses. The corneal tissue is then properly reshaped using the VISX laser to improve your quality of vision and visual function. The corneal tissue will grow back naturally, a few days after the surgery, and the cornea should be restored to 100% strength.

PRK is also an option for those who may not be a candidate for iLASIK.

Visian Implantable Contact Lens (ICL)

If you’ve been wearing glasses or contacts for years and find that they are getting in the way or you have such a strong prescription that you think no laser surgery will ever work, Visian Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) could be the procedure for you. The Visian ICL procedure gives you the chance to go beyond iLASIK and say goodbye to glasses and contact lenses.

During the procedure, an implantable contact lens, constructed of 100% biocompatible collamer, is surgically placed inside your eye, between the iris and lens, for exceptional results. Recently, Health Canada approved EVO Visian ICL, which offers advanced technology by removing the extra step of the peripheral iridotomy, popular in Visian ICL. This adds both safety and comfort for you and your surgeon.

Visian ICL can treat a wide range of prescriptions from -3.00 to -15.00 D. and can correct up to -6.00 astigmatism with the Toric lens. For prescriptions from -15.00 to -23.00, PRK may be used to remove any residual prescription in combination with the implantable contact lens.

Patients, who must be under 45 years old to be a candidate for Visian ICL, will notice a difference immediately after with permanent freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

Differences in Recovery Time

If you choose Visian ICL, you can expect a slightly longer recovery time. Visian ICL patients will start seeing results one to seven days and completely healed within one to two months following. PRK patients can expect to return to work within the week, and notice a change in the vision after two weeks, although you will gain better quality vision after about three to four weeks.
