James J. Wiens, M.D., FRCSC
Dr. Wiens completed his ophthalmology residency at McGill University in 1987 followed by a further year of training in corneal and external diseases at McGill University. Dr. Wiens began his ophthalmology practice in Winnipeg at the Health Sciences Centre in 1988. He chose to go into private practice in 1990, preferring to focus his practice toward clinical care. Along with laser vision correction, his practice includes corneal and cataract surgery. He has and is participating in clinical research involving laser vision correction including presbyopia (need for reading glasses). He has lectured to medical students and participates in providing continuing medical education to physicians and other medical personnel about ophthalmology. Dr. Wiens is an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Manitoba. He is on staff at Misericordia Health Centre. Non-laser treatments offered by Dr. Wiens include Intacs, Phakic intraocular lenses, cataract surgery, clear lens extractions, and DSEK corneal transplants.
