PRK:
PRK with Advanced CustomVue WaveFront. During this procedure (photorefractive keratectomy), a flap is not created but rather the surface layer of the cornea is gently removed with an amoils brush. The excimer laser is then used to treat the vision, as in the iLasik process.
PRK is recommended for people who engage in physical careers or pursuits, such as law enforcement, the military, hockey or boxing, etc. PRK patients normally experience slightly more discomfort and a longer healing period. Dr. Wiens will discuss this option to you if appropriate.
